Bettum's Idlewood Family Campground
HILLTOPPER'S NEWSLETTER
VOLUME II
ISSUE II August 2012
Summer is here … Fall is near
Here we are mid season; the past couple of months have been
warm and dry making this summer season one of the best in several years for hanging around the pool and catching up with old
and new friends. Before we know it fall will be here, kids will be going back to school and again our lives become so busy
we forget to keep in touch. Let’s all take the next couple of weeks to take the opportunity to reach out and say hello
to our fellow campers and enjoy each other’s company.
Update on Management:
Now that everyone has met our family, that joined us last
spring to assist in the growth of Bettum’s Idlewood Family Campground, here is a quick “recap”
Jason Bettum has taken over the daily operations of the
campground and he can be reached at 814-598-1608, he is always happy to assist you with any campground issues or questions
you may have.
Amanda Bettum has jumped in to assisting with campground
advertising. Please bring all of your new and old suggestions regarding postings for the newsletter or bulletin boards to
her. She can be reached at 814-598-0554 and will always be happy to talk with
you. There are several ways to reach Amanda. Call or email at abettum@ymail.com. or drop off your ideas in the suggestion box located in the store foyer. We here at Bettum’s Idlewood Family
Campground are always looking for new ways to improve! Tell us what you want
and we will try to accommodate.
Steven Bettum has moved onto Campground Development. We
are certain that you have noticed the new camp sites popping up in the new areas. You
will continue to see these areas grow thru out the year to accommodate that ever growing list of new seasonal campers waiting
to come and be a part of the family. Special thanks to everyone who has chipped in a helping hand. You guys are the best!
Esther Bettum, Aunt Viv, Tina & John Baker, Lauri &
Jeff Bennett will continue to man the camp store and campground activities.
A really Big Thank You to everyone that continues
to help with our food events, we would not be able to pull them off without you.
Wayne Coldren is the one responsible for the lawns looking
better than most golf courses and he is the go to men for all landscaping needs and maintenance.
A Really big welcome to Kim Young who has joined our team,
she is the one responsible for our bathrooms looking there best.
Coming & Goings:
We have taken notice that Speed of Vehicles, ATV’s
and Dirt Bikes have been picking up there speed. This is a very big concern of ours and it should be yours too! We all know
that we have a lot of children in the park. We understand that the 5 miles an hour is slow but if you hit a child that runs
out in front of your vehicle, there is a very good chance that the child will survive the injuries. If you are driving 10
to 15 miles per hour there is a very good chance the Child – Will Not Survive!!!
Please take notice! It is very important that we pay close attention to how fast you are driving because we do not
want any injuries to our children.
Wild Animals:
We want to bring to everyones attention to the increased
amount of wildlife in our park. This year we have BEARS AND THEIR CUBS! There are special rules that need to be stressed
and payed very close attention to. You Never walk up to a wild Black Bear and
you NEVER EVER come up to a baby bear and a Mother Bear.
We understand that watching them are a great source of excitement
& entertainment, but you need to respect their space. When they are dining in the dumpster – Stand back by the Pine
Trees at the Store. No further Please!
Pets in the Park:
This is and always will be a mandatory requirement.
Pets are like a member of the family. You must keep them
safe at all times. Please make sure to keep ALL DOGS on a leash at all times. We all know that barking dogs are an annoyance.
Please if you can’t keep your dog from barking leave it at home. If you must bring him/her here we carry barking collars
in the store.
Please be mindful of other campers and CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR
DOG. Stepping in poop and walking into you camper is not a good way to start the day.
Activities:
Thanks to all our campers for an awesome start to the season.
We had the Mothers Day and Fathers Day brunch with about 40 families at attendance.
Memorial Day Weekend went off with a hit, with the CHICKEN
BBQ and THE PINK AUCTION! Take notice throughout the park of all the BIFC Mascots are in plain view at seasonal camper’s
sites.

The ups and downs of camping:
Lately during pump-outs we have noticed that people are
flushing paper towels, wet wipes and so on down the drain. Please note that sanitary
items going down the RV toilets is causing damage to our pump out cart and our septic system. This is becoming a very costly
to repair the damage to our systems. We need your help to control cost. Please keep in mind – One way to help you to
remember is
“If you don’t eat it you don’t
flush it”
Our last trash pickup is at 8:00 pm in the evening and we
always appreciate your help. If you plan to drop off your trash please make sure
you open the bag when putting the trash in the dumpster.
This is to prevent the bears from ripping the bag open and
dragging it throughout the park.
If the bears ever should become a nuisance please let us
know and we will call the authorities.
Please do not leave food out at night and always put your
trash on the curb for pick up.
